ROSTER RULES

Apple and Google are not involved in any way with the rosters.

Definitions

Lobby: Private group(s) in which to play and compete in the game amongst your friends.

Athletics Meeting: An organized and sanctioned, single or multi-day athletics (track & field) competition. (For example, the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, World Athletics Diamond League, EAA Premium Meeting, etc.)

Event: A single race or field event competition, within an Athletics Meeting (For example 100m, long jump, hammer throw, etc.)

Athlete: An individual participating in an Athletics Meeting.

Rules

Results, rankings, and winners will be determined based on the results and placings of athletes participating in actual Athletics Meetings in their respective events.

In each Roster Athletics game, participants create a roster by selecting a maximum of eight athletes and can designate one of these athletes as the captain. Each athlete listed in the game has an assigned virtual price. A valid roster must not exceed the total fixed budget for that game (e.g., $30M). Roster game rankings and scoring results will be determined by the total points accumulated based on the performance of each individual athlete in a roster (see scoring rules summarized below).

Participation in each Roster game must be made only as specified in the Terms of Use. Failure to comply with these Terms of Use will result in disqualification. For more see Terms.

Roster Requirements

Each roster will consist of a maximum of eight athletes based on the following criteria:

  • One male and one female athlete in the sprinting events category.

  • One male and one female athlete in the middle and long-distance events category.

  • One male and one female athlete in the jumping events category.

  • One male and one female athlete in the throwing events category.

One of the athletes can be selected to be the team captain (the athlete that is the captain has a higher cost but can also score extra points).

Scoring Rules

An athlete will receive placement points based on his/her performance according to the following schedule:

  • 1st place = 10 points

  • 2nd place = 8 points

  • 3rd place = 6 points

  • 4th place = 5 points

  • ...

  • 8th place = 1 point

An athlete that is disqualified (DQ), does not start (DNS), does not finish (DNF) or is registered for a no mark (NM) will receive zero placement points even if there are eight or fewer athletes in the event.

Additionally, an athlete will receive personal performance points if the following achievements are met:

  • World Record (WR) = 12 points

  • Athletics Meeting Record (MR) = 8 points

  • Personal Best (PB) = 5 points

  • Season’s Best (SB) = 3 points

An athlete will be credited with only one single highest performance points award from the allotment above. For example, if an athlete sets a new PB, he/she will be awarded 5 points, and forfeit the 3 points for an SB. If an athlete sets multiple WR, MR, PB or SB in the same meeting and event, he/she will be credited with only one performance points bonus. If an athlete participates in multiple rounds (e.g., heats and final) only the result from the higher-ranked round (i.e., the final) will count.

If a meeting does not already have an MR in an event, then no athlete will receive points for an MR. An athlete will not receive points for an SB, PB, MR or WR if the tailwind exceeds 2 m/s for events where the wind is measured.

Placement points are only awarded to athletes in the final (i.e., if only 7 athletes make it to the final, then number 8 overall will be the best athlete not promoted to the final. He/she will receive no placement points, but will still receive potential performance points).

Total points for an athlete = placement points + performance points.

The team captain receives double points (both placement points and performance points are doubled).

Note that the Roster Athletics database is synchronized to Tilastopaja so that all performance records and times are validated and up-to-date.

Canceled events and/or competitions

In the case where an event is canceled, the selected athlete will receive 0 points. It will not be possible to change a particular athlete after the deadline. If an Athletics Meeting is canceled (e.g., because of bad weather) the Roster game will be canceled.

Start lists, Personal/Season’s Best and Results

Start lists will be available shortly after their announcement by the Athletics Meeting. An athlete’s Personal Best and Season’s Best will solely be based on information from the competition organizer and/or Tilastopaja’s Athletes profiles. All points will be based on PBs and SBs listed within the Roster application. Results will be based on official results from the Athletics Meeting as of 11:59 pm local time on competition day. Any subsequent changes in results (due to e.g., doping violations, protests, etc.) will not affect the points.

Roster edits

Your roster may be edited at any time leading up to the Athletics Meeting. Each individual athlete will become “locked” at the official start of the Athletics Meeting. A locked player cannot be added or removed from a roster spot.

Athlete price calculations

Prices on athletes are based on the athlete’s current form (SB), personal best, as well as the spread between the best athlete in the world and the one who is in 50th/100th place on the global ranking for that event.
